During the tour, guests will have the chance to learn about and encounter a wide variety of marine species, from the endangered African Penguin to the iconic Bottlenose Dolphin, as well as the magnificent and often misunderstood Great White Shark.

Full-Day Shark Cage Diving Tour in Port Elizabeth

Our Shark Cage Diving Tour is a full-day adventure running from April to September. We meet at 7 a.m. at the Nelson Mandela Bay Yacht Club (NMBYC) in the Port Elizabeth Harbour, departing shortly afterwards and returning around 5 p.m. This all-inclusive tour takes you across every corner of Algoa Bay and is divided into five parts to ensure you enjoy each aspect of the experience to the fullest.

The Five-Part Shark Cage Diving Adventure in Port Elizabeth

1. Whale Watching in Deep Waters
   Begin the adventure by venturing into the deep waters off Port Elizabeth, where migratory Humpback Whales can often be seen passing along the coastline.
2. The Sardine Run
   Next, we make the 80km journey across the bay’s mouth, stopping to observe any Sardine Run action we find along the way. This natural phenomenon attracts a variety of marine life.
3. Visit Bird Island Group
   Explore the historically rich Bird Island Group, home to 250,000 Cape Gannets—the largest breeding colony of these birds on the planet. The flat terrain provides excellent views of the gannet colony, African penguins, and the iconic lighthouse. The group consists of Stag Island, Seal Island, and Black Rocks, where 4,000 playful fur seals reside.
4. Shark Cage Diving Experience
   Near Bird Island, we offer our educational Shark Cage Diving experience. Guests will have the chance to view Great White Sharks both underwater and from the boat, followed by a packed lunch to enjoy while taking in the breathtaking surroundings.
5. Dolphin Watching at the Alexandria Dune-Field
   Our final stop is at the Alexandria Dune-field, the world’s longest mobile dune-field. Here, we often see Bottlenose Dolphins surfing the waves against the stunning backdrop of pristine dunes. This provides exceptional photographic opportunities. Lastly, we visit St. Croix Island, home to Algoa Bay’s breeding colony of African Penguins.
